Landscape sketch showing a view of the mountain known as Monte Rosa from the small town of Macugnaga in the Valley of the Anza River in Italy. In the foreground, a timber building and a stone church--likely the Parrocchia di Macugnaga--are visible atop a lightly wooded prominence at lower right.

Beyond them in the middle distance, a heavily wooded hillside descends diagonally across the composition from upper left to lower right, partially obscure the view of the distant mountain range. In the background at upper left, the three sharp, rocky peaks of Monte Rosa are veiled in clouds, while two shorter peaks at upper right are covered in snow. A large glacier is visible in the saddle below and between the peaks. Above, puffy clouds hang in an otherwise deep blue sky.
